Leather Bottle, The

The pub is thought to date back to early 1700 and over the years The Leather Bottle has often been a talking point with the locals which couldn’t be more true than over the past year since Carol Beardsell took possession and begun refurbishing the old pub with an entirely new car park, rejuvenated the decor in the bars and conversion creating a new restaurant.

But her plans don’t stop there, she passionately talks about the planned garden and marquee to host weddings, specialty nights and hog roasts. Carol’s background in catering is extensive as she modestly told me about her experience gained over the years which led her to business life owning several eateries in Colchester with her husband who also owns Colchester Hog Roast company.

With a passion for food Carol has ensembled a kitchen team with 3 talented chefs - Gary Stephens, Neil Sparks and Terry Ong of Maylasian decent who adds a flavoursome twist. ‘Sourcing the freshest local ingredients is vital to our kitchen and we enjoy great relationships with quality local businesses as Blythburgh Pork, Clough & Son Eggs, Frank Wright Butchers, Proctor’s Sausages, Direct Seafoods, Maldon Fruit & Veg with wines supplied by Grape Passions Wine of Tiptree. The emphasis at The Leather Bottle is great classical pub food cooked and served well’.
